Traveling to Guayaquil Ecuador to immerse in the Spanish language?

If you are traveling to Ecuador, specifically to the city of Guayaquil on the coast region to immerse yourself in the Spanish language, this is what you should know to optimize your time there and have the best experience. 

I grew up in Guayaquil and I was very lucky and feel very fortunate to have become a Spanish teacher, so here is my piece of advice so you start learning Spanish right away:

Eat delicious food and learn about it:

Ecuador is rich in gastronomy and you will be amazed by the amount of flavors this country can offer. Some of the dishes you have to try and learn about are: encebollado, guatita, seco de pollo, humitas and bollo. They are so delicious that I crave this dishes just by writing them. Ecuadorians like to eat so hurry and learn all the Spanish words related to these dishes.

Use your Spanish everywhere:

One of the reasons why you need to accelerate your Spanish learning is because many people in Ecuador do not speak English and Spanish will save you if you are hungry and need to order food in a fast food restaurant or if you run into any issues while staying there.

Take Spanish lessons:

Take the time to find the right teacher. A tutor will give you tools, vocabulary and culture knowledge that maybe books or AI do not know. See it as an investment towards your dream of becoming fluent in Spanish. Can you imagine yourself speaking Spanish fluently, forming sentences in Spanish like a professional? Go to a supermarket and read the labels:

There are many Ecuadorian products that you need to try, specially snacks like galletas de amor, yogu yogu, yogurt Tony, manjar and chocolates. Yum! Take the time to read about their labels and you will learn so many words that you can use in daily life. Some of my favorite supermarkets because of the variety they have is Supermaxi, Mi comisariato and Tia.
